We work closely with researchers at the University of Alberta to conduct research. What we learn from our research influences the care we provide to children and families at our clinic. You might be asked if you're interested in participating in research. Participating is completely voluntary. If you choose to participate in one of our studies, that's great! If not, your decision will have no impact on the care you receive from our clinic. For more information about our current or past research, please see below or ask to speak with one of our Research Coordinators.

Current Studies

The CANPWR Study

CANadian Pediatric Weight Management Registry

The CANPWR Study has enrolled nearly 1300 families from 10 pediatric weight management clinics across Canada. The goal of the study is to learn more about what helps families to make healthy lifestyle changes to improve their children's health. The knowledge gained from The CANPWR Study will help to inform future research and improve experiences for families attending weight management treatment. For more information, please contact Marcus O'Neill (, Research Coordinator.

We are no longer recruiting for The CANPWR Study.

The RMI-Family Study

The Readiness and Motivation Interview for Families (RMI-Family)

Motivation plays an important role in whether families make healthy changes to their diet and physical activity. The goal of The RMI-Family Study is to better understand family and individual (parent and teen) motivation to change lifestyle behaviours. For more information, please contact Marcus O'Neill (, Research Coordinator.

We are currently recruiting families for the RMI-Family Study.
